A 20-0 run means 17 regular-season wins plus three playoff wins — divisional round, conference championship and Super Bowl — with zero losses. The simulation rewards a balanced, honor-rich five, not one superstar carrying four passengers. Here is what actually moves the needle.
1. Do not sleep on the defensive slot
Unlike most roster games in this family, the defensive pick is scored on its own value, not on offense. It drives the majority of your team's defensive rating, so a genuine All-Pro defender — a pass rusher, a shutdown corner, a ball-hawking safety — swings games as much as your quarterback. A stacked offense with a weak defensive slot gets exposed in the playoffs, where opponents are toughest.
2. Honor density beats one megastar
Every player's contribution is capped, so you cannot win on a single Hall-of-Famer plus four scrubs. Five solid picks with real All-Pro and Pro Bowl seasons outscore one legend surrounded by depth players. When you open a position sheet, look at the All-Pro and Pro Bowl counts, not just the name you recognize.
3. Pick the era with the deepest pool
Franchises are not equally deep in every era. Some are loaded in the modern era, some peaked in the 1970s. If you get a re-spin on the era, use it to land in the decade where the franchise had stars at every position — a deep pool means a stronger pick at all five slots, not just one or two.
4. Survive the regular season first
You need roughly 13 wins to lock a playoff berth. Below that you are gambling on the seeding lottery, and a weak roster often gets the "missed the playoffs" screen before it ever reaches January. A balanced five that wins consistently is more reliable than a boom-or-bust roster that blows out cupcakes and loses to good teams.
5. Balance offense and defense

6. Read the loss screen
When you go down, the game tells you exactly what failed: your attack was blunted or your defense cracked. That is your re-draft signal — if you keep losing on defense, spend your best pick on the defensive slot next run. Every loss is a lesson, not just a dead end.
